Ray and I met in 2000 at a Sunday School party and we talked.  At the time Ray was attending Tarleton completing his Bachelors degree and really didn’t have time to peruse getting to know me.  He graduated in December 2000 and we went out on our first date March 17, 2001.  While getting to know one another we found where we both desired to have a vineyard or an orchard.  We talked a lot about our ideas and found we were a good match.  So after Ray asked me to marry him and we married in September 2002.

After a few months we proceeded to look for some property to plant a few plum trees (for jellies) and some grape vines.  The day we found the land was a day of a miracle.  The land we found and wanted.  We fell in love with the place, it was for sale but there was a contract we came home with the feeling that if it was meant to be it would.  We had told our real estate person that if it became available to let us know.  We were eating dinner 3 hours later and we got a call to tell us the contract fell through. YEA! That meant it was available for us.  We put a contract on it and soon it was ours.

This was a quest to fulfill our dreams.  We wanted to get back to the basics of life.  And enjoy our autumn years outside and watching trees grow and produce premium, sweet, and juicy fruit.

Afterwards we started to set out to plant a few things and then we wanted to visit an orchard to get some advice on the basics, how, what, where, when and who.  We visited the Hamm orchard in Terrell( http://www.hamorchard.com/)  and Mr. Hamm gave us some wonderful advise -- told us to join the Texas Fruit Growers Association (http://www.texasfruitgrowers.org/) and we then we were off.  We decided the best thing to plant is peaches, some plums and some pears. We laid out rows and started to plow, disc and dig the holes.

We are breaking up the ground to start digging and planting.

We used the tractor to dig the holes.  My job was to help the auger to dig a deep hold and to make sure it goes down deep enough.

We also decided to also plant some black berries.   Just plant a few.

We started in 2004 planting  peach, pear, plums trees and blackberry rooting.
